RIDE is a secular, non-governmental organization dedicated to empowering poor and disadvantaged residents of rural Tamil Nadu to improve the quality of their lives.
RIDE works to eliminate child labor, promotes economic and social justice for women, provides essential medical and educational services and cultivates economic opportunity throughout the Kanchipuram region. Our motto, "Help Others Help Themselves" embodies the central approach and goal of this agency's activities.
Founded in 1984, RIDE has provided services to hundreds of women, men and children throughout the Kanchipuram muncipality area. In an attempt to overcome the traditionally restricted social roles of Indian women, RIDE focuses on empowerment through the establishment of Self Help Groups and micro loan programs. As one of the first organizations in Tamil Nadu to commence facilitating Self Help Groups, RIDE now supports more than 1,500 Self Help Groups in 295 villages in the district of Kanchipuram.
