SCHOOL OF MEDIEVAL SWORDSMANSHIP MOTUS

The purpose of the School of Medieval Swordsmanship MOTUS is to study the Medieval European fencing traditions from the period of the 13th to 16th centuries.

The school was founded in 2003, when an experimental "Group for Research and Study of Medieval Warrior Arts" was created in association with the cultural-historical group "Modus Vivendi". In 2006 the group evolved into an independent fencing club and in 2010 in School of Medieval Swordsmanship MOTUS

The art of Medieval European Swordsmanship was preserved in many manuscripts from the 13th to 16th centuries. The training methods used in the fencing school MOTUS come as a direct result of:

- Studying fencing tractates from the period of 1275-1599, including;
Walpurgis Fechtbuch I:33 (1275-1305), Liechtenauer/Dobringer (1389), Fiore dei Liberi (1409), Sigmund Ringeck (1440), Hans Talhoffer (1467, 1459), Filippo Vadi (1482-1487), Codex Wallerstein (1470, 1550), Albrecht Durer (1512), Joachim Meyer (1570), George Silver (1599, 1605) and others.
- Experimental and practical approaches, incorporating the study of historical patterns and working with precision replicas of different types of medieval weapons.
- Working with research and literature.

The training program of fencing school MOTUS includes working with the following types of weapons:
- Short sword
- Short sword and buckler
- Long sword

The fencing school MOTUS can offer demonstrations, seminars, private lessons, consulting and choreography of battle scenes for the movie and television industry, theatrical productions, advertising and musical video clips, and participation in educational and entertaining programs and events.
