The formation was founded in 2008: three virtuoso musicians came together to enrich, despite their young age, the spirit of the 1970ies with the sheer madness of the present. With previous projects they had played for artists like Velvet Revolver or LeTigre; In the course of the Local Heroes Band Contest 2010, they excelled more than 1.000 national competitors and made the second place among 13.000 bands in the European finals with MOTHER'S CAKE. A self produced video for their song „realitricked me" featured on GoTV caused a little sensation and attracted national sponsors of the scene.
The new record is going to be released in February 2012; furthermore, Mother's Cake will compose parts of the soundtrack for Henning Backhaus' first film „Local Heroes". Backhaus, a student of Michael Haneke, was fascinated by the band and engaged them not only musically, but also for the shots. The film describes the madness of an upcoming young band, thus exactly reflecting Mother's Cake situation, and will be shown for the first time at the film festival Berlinale in February 2012.
A live band? You betcha!
Experiencing Mother's Cake live for the first time, one must think inevitably of the Red Hot Chili Peppers or the young Led Zeppelin. The music and the lively stage performance blur into a progressive funk and rock construction, spelling a cast on everyone in the audience. In doing so, the band goes back to a complex netting of rhythm and musical possibilities without losing its own authenticity or having the effect of artificiality. A concert stays thrilling until the end; all musical possibilities are only nuanced but yet they come to the essential point. A dichotomy? Yes, but only until your first Mother's Cake concert.
