For the THIRD and what I believe to be the FINAL time, I'm transitioning from a relaxer back to my natural hair. My last touch-up was in July 2008. I don't think I will be entertaining a perm again. I transitioned with micro-braids again, and I love the freedom!! :) Should have just done the BC! LOL

About 7 years ago (the SECOND TIME), I sported micro-braids for two years in order to regrow my hair back down my back. I finally got it releaxed and it was BEAUTIFUL......for about six months.

I started to notice breakage at the top of my head (of all places). I changed my hairdresser thinking maybe she had overlapped the relaxer. She had not. My hair seemed to be rebelling against the perm. (Hmmm..I'm allergic to a lot of things. I wonder if I'm allergic to something in the relaxers now).

Anyway, the breakage ran from the top thru the left side of my head. I had to CUT it (7 inches), and I was devastated...All that work down the drain. Nevertheless, I loved my bobb and worked it. It started to show progress and all of a sudden (after a year of no problems)the right side of my head went through the same process!! I changed the direction of my wrap and it got worse. A section on the right side of my head had become THIN and slow to grow back. Thank God you couldn't tell unless I showed it to you (it kept me in tears). Finally, I decided to just go back to my natural hair. My hairdresser says relaxers are not for everyone and thinks I'm doing the best thing for my hair. She's dying to promote the health of my hair in its natural state!

I've got two different grades of hair that I affectionately call Shaka-hontas. It's curly on the sides, front, and back (3c). The crown is extremely thick and wavy (4a). My hairdresser says it's hard to work with as far as the relaxer goes because you must be careful not to overprocess the curlier parts. I'm really curious what type of styling challenges I will face since I have the two different textures. I can't remember not having some type of chemical in my hair. If push comes to shove I'll just have it rodded to help it along and call it a day!

So, my transition is complete, and I'm still a product junkie! So glad I went Natural!
