I am a born again Christian. This means that I have been born of water at my physical birth and of the Spirit when I accepted salvation through Jesus alone by faith alone."Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of flesh is flesh; and that which is born of Spirit is spirit." John 3:4-6
I remember sitting in my kitchen, spring 2007, with Pastor John from the Lighthouse Baptist here in Butte. We were talking about salvation and it was there for the first time that I saw the truth about my lost condition.
Up to that point, I had attended church on and off all of my life and remember having said a sinner's prayer countless times, but nothing ever changed. I remained the same rebellious, apathetic, and hurtful person. I learned that religion and church attendance do not make one saved any more than standing in a garage makes them a car.
Pastor John showed me from the Bible what I was, a sinner. Sin is breaking God's commands. 1 John 3:4 "Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law." He used the Romans road and led me to Christ that day after much time spent explaining the reality of my condition to me and enduring many questions from me.
I praise God that I am saved! He did it all, for there was nothing that I could do to earn or deserve salvation. All my efforts to try and change and earn it were in vain because I never could be good enough. "But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags;" Isaiah 64:6a
Now I'm working on maturing in faith through prayer, reading/studying my Bible, and sitting under Godly preaching. I struggle with it, for I know that in my flesh I am tempted by laziness. Conquering this attitude is one of my current challenges. So I'm not perfect, but I am saved by God's grace.
God is so good. My life is a lot different now, though there could be some improvements I know, and often they do not come swiftly enough for my taste. However, I am at peace and my eternity is forever settled thanks to my Lord and God, Jesus.
Do you know for certain that you will go to heaven when you die? Our life is but a little dash between two dates and we're not guaranteed tomorrow.
God wants you to be saved! "The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." II Peter 3:9
First, admit that you are a sinner and have disobeyed God. Romans 3:23 says "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." We have all sinned, every one of us.
Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Our sin earns us wages and those wages are spiritual death and hell.
So how do you get saved? Just confess with your mouth and believe in your heart, that's it. Romans 10:9-10 & 13. "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Acts 16:30-31 "And brought them out and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house."
It's that simple. Talk to Jesus, confess to Him that you agree with what the Bible says about you, that you have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Call upon Jesus to redeem you from your sins and make you new.
Are you willing to be saved today? I pray that you will accept the greatest gift you will ever be given, salvation and eternity in the presence of God.
I'm a Bible believing, KJV only, independent fundamental Baptist. I believe that the King James Bible is the inspired and preserved word of God in English.
Our theme for church this year is learning to love as God loves. I love this chapter as it reminds me to become less self important and focus on others.
