You can tell that Weller couldn't be bothered anymore. He wanted out asap by then. The fact that he wasn't carrying or playing his trademark Rickenbacker was his way of telling us what the future would look like. I was 15 years old when this was #1 and I was gutted, but he's gone on to do so man...

I bought this single when it came out. Guy Chambers went on to write Angels etc for Robbie Williams. And he was Robbie's writer and musical director until they parted company after the 'Escapology' album in 2002.

I met them in the bar at Bradford University (Yorkshire U.K) in 1997. Adam Schlezinger is a great guy but Chris Collingwood was very moody and RUDE. Great band though.

The Jam were everything to me when I was a teenager in the late 70's & early 80's, but you can hear how much better Weller has become as a songwriter since then. The Jam will always occupy a special place in my heart but I much prefer to live in the present. Peace and love x
