About Me:
We found him at midday on 1. June 2007 as an orphan (500g + ca 5 weeks), two days after a storm.
He laid completely motionless and lethargic at the waterside. We thought he was dead.
When we went closer he opened his eyes.
We took him with us without any hope that he'd survive.
Laid him in a box with a soft towel and in a moment he fell asleep for 3 hours.
When he woke up he was not afraid of us. Maybe he was happy to not be alone anymore.
It took him a while until he drank his first sip of milk out of a rubber glove.
The following week he was only drinking and sleeping (snuggled up to a warm body).
We told him all the time that he had to become a "molliges Waschbärchen" (a chubby raccoony).
And for short we called him „Molly".
He did what we told him and we have 10kgs of trouble living with us now.
We don't want to miss this smart outlaw anymore: He has stolen our hearts!!!
We've had to rebuild some parts of our home:
He climbs everywhere, opens everything, touches all he can get!
And he wants to be a part of everything we do!
If you want to live together with a raccoon you have to make a lot of compromises and adjustments,
you need "nerves of steel" and a lot of time. Raccoons are not loners, they need companions.
They are very demanding and brainy, curious and bullheaded.
You have to support their body, mind and spirit.
Once you tame a raccoon, you can't release it back into the wild. Tamed raccoons have no natural training on how to defend themselves in the wild, and other raccoons would not accept them. The outcome is almost always a disaster.
A breeder will always tell you they are easy to handle like a normal pet.
That's a deliberate lie.
They are only thinking of their own money.
If you really love raccoons,
Please ask people living together with them all it takes to raise one.
Don't be afraid to contact me.
And then really consider if you can properly care for and still definitely want a raccoon.
