A visionary, a master of his craft, an artist. Stanley Kubrick is my all time favorite director. For years I've rewatched his films MANY times and no films from any other director have affected me the same way Kubrick's have. Each and every film of his is an experience. Whether it be the spine tingling chills of 'The Shining' or the tear inducing laughs of 'Dr. Strangelove,' Kubrick's films always stick with the viewer. With this edition of 'The Works' I really wanted to channel what I feel makes Kubrick's films so special. So here you are, an extra long tribute that chronicles a lifetime of works from one of the greatest filmmakers who ever lived.
Stanley, no one will ever make films as timeless as your own.
(I apologize for the absence of 'Fear and Desire' I was unable to obtain a copy of it. But even Kubrick himself stated that he never looked on that film fondly. He saw it as merely a learning exercise).
As for a for my next director tribute, I will not be giving out a hint this time. However, you can expect a sneak peek very soon! Everyone loves surprises right?

The work of Quentin Tarantino has always left an impression on me. Although many think that he delves too deeply into paying homage to his influences, I feel that his films are kinetic, deep and always offer a great time at the cinema. Whether it be his unique style of dialogue or impeccable moments of tension, it's undeniable that Quentin Tarantino is one of the most talented directors working today. With this action packed and bloody installment of 'The Works', my goal was to display exactly what I feel makes Tarantino such a great director.
Featured on this fantastic Tarantino Site! http://www.ReservoirWatchDogs.com
As for which director is next, I haven't decided. I'm debating between two options, but either way or you'll end up seeing both of them at some point.

*Please note that there are SPOILERS for many of Scorsese's films in this tribute*
What an exceptional director this man is. Often referred to as one of the greatest American filmmakers (which he is), Martin Scorsese is amongst the most passionate and fearless directors working today. Why fearless? He's not afraid to try new things. His genres can range from a violent crime film like Goodfellas or Casino, to family oriented love letter to cinema like 'Hugo.' It's undeniable that Scorsese knows how to make a damn good film no matter what genre or style. With this installment of 'The Works' I tried to focus on the tonal range of Scorsese's feature films along with the recurring themes that surround them.
Who's next? Here's a hint: Toothpick

We got everything you want honey, we know the names
We are the people that can find whatever you may need
If you got the money honey we got your disease
[Chorus]
In the jungle, welcome to the jungle
Watch it bring you to your knnn knne knees, knees
I want to watch you bleed
So yeah, fresh meat...awesome. You've earned it, though, so keep up the good work! :)
