Della Reese is an incredible source of inspiration. For over fifty years she's been a driving force in music, TV, and in movies. Her many talents have ensured her a long, and legendary showbiz career.
I am not Della Reese. I'm a big admirer of Della, but I am not Della Reese herself. Quite a lot of people seem to believe that I am indeed her, and perhaps I should have made it more clear, but I am not, I'm afraid. I grew up listening to Miss Della Reese, and she means a lot to me, so I opened up a channel as a tribute to her many talents, and kind heart. I am sorry if this disappoints you.
Della came along when giants like Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Carmen McRae, Dinah Washington and Ella Fitzgerald were around. Inevitably, comparisons were drawn, and yes, Della did sing Jazz, but her background was always Gospel.
Della: "I remember how people used to say that I'm a mixture of Ella and Sarah. I cried all night long, because they didn't recognize my style. But I found my own space."
