Thank u hansraj sahib for the raga darbari. Lata has also sung this song. Both singers are equally good in this song. Rafi sang darbari in oh dunya kay rakhwale and a much higher range than both lata this young lady. Rafi was in a different league, but these ladies are also excellent.

Great singing by lata. I was hoping she might bring up some high notes somewhere in the song, but she preferred to stay in the low and medium range. This absence of high note ability is not usually noted by the music critics who give emotional praises to many singers.

Mehdi sang raga darbari at my request in a performance. He could sing any raga and any tune given to him. He did a lot of riaz and really loved music. Noor jahan praised him a lot. Time has taken its toll. I hope he gets the proper medical treatment and lives to be a hundred, at least.

Baiwanjee: u are correct that noor jahan was 16 years old in 1942. This recording was made in 1941 and released in 1942. At the time of recording Noor was 15 years old. My calling her 13 year old is a mistake. Thanks for the correction. Milahi.

The tune is very sensitive and has great melody. Lata has done an excellent piece. A little more range from her would have made it even better. madhuballa is probably the most beautiful woman to have graced our world. the video is excellent.

Great singing by saigol. This was the gold standard of singing of the forties. Saigol gave a good range but could have gone higher. I wonder if somebody will sing this song again and go higher than saigol.

@shankyxyz 4 octave is possible. Rafi and noor jahan are the only ones I know of that went to 4 octaves.
