Hey HeardThatSongBefore, Mario was very well trained, having been trained for well over a year by Rosati (who had trained Gigli) and also trained by Spadoni. Hollywood intervened in what was an upcoming and extremely promising operatic career. He was very unique to be sure, but not well trained...

Lanza was a very highly trained singer (even studying under Rosatti) and was well on his way to an operatic career when snatched by Hollywood. His voice was unparalleled in combining beauty, power and raw emotion. I tip my hat to many tenors, including Jussi Bjorling, but Mario Lanza was unsurp...

I disagree curmudgeon. Domingo's technique is excellent and he's endured for decades. He's sung more tenor roles than any other in the history of opera. His middle register is excellent and his voice in that arena is fuller than Pav's. He doesn't have the true high C but neither did Caruso. ...

I agree GermanOperaSinger, Lanza was magnificent! Compared to Mario, Pav's voice was reed thin. Mario had the best top to his voice of any tenor ever. Jealousy prevailed in his time because only one of his genius could have catapulted himself to such worldwide fame so quickly. His looks and q...

Pav was a vocal midget compared to Caruso. Pav had great agility with his voice but it was too small to compare to Caruso. Pavarotti was indeed a great tenor but most certainly not the greatest. His voice was too limited in volume and timbre.

You need your head examined jonesthephones. Pavarotti and Bocelli don't have the capacity to bring this emotion to their singing or the timbre and breadth of voice to pull it off. In other words, they lack the goods. Lanza was a genius light years ahead of his time, and all modern opera stars ...
