About Me.
My name is Emily and I am a Sixteen year old young aspiring rider. I live in Soham, Cambridgeshire and I've been riding since I was a young girl. I am a member of Soham and district pony club (Area8) and even when I am not riding, I still like to go and show my support. At home I have high aspirations of every horse I ride, hoping to gain their full potential. In the past I have suffered with a few confidence issues due to some bad incidents that have occurred, but I have and will always fight my way back with courage and patience.
Bess.
15'1, Dark-Bay, Thoroughbred, Mare. I got her on the 30th June 2007. My older sister actually brought her as a surprise with the intention of her being a six month project for the both of us to share & bring on. When she arrived, she was seven, very green and had been abandoned for two years. She came to us un-rideable and un-controllable. We were told she had a foal at the age of four and that she hadn't been properly worked since, so that meant we had to go right back to the basics and start from scratch. Me and my older sister Hayley, (who has over twenty years experience), backed her when we got her, and together we taught her everything she knew. She turned into a very honest little mare, who cared for her rider. Together, we taught each other, but most importantly she taught me how to ride, and not how to be a passenger! She is a 'One In A Million' horse, and the horse I imagined on keeping 'forever'. She was my best friend for the three years that I owned her, but sadly she had to be sold due to me outgrowing her. She is and always will be very dearly missed.
*SOLD -- 21June2010*
Lurch.
17hh, 4yo, Bay, Thoroughbred, Gelding. We got him on the 7th July 2010. An ex-racer, who was trained in racing by Chris Wall in Newmarket. At the age of two, whilst he was still a youngster himself, he was used to lead the babies out, as he was so calm and laid back. We brought him as a new project with high hopes of turning him into a showjumper/eventer for the upcoming season, but unfortunately after having a few schooling problems we found an old racing injury that we never got told about. He had x-rays and they found out that he had severely damaged both of his hind suspensories but that they were so severely damaged that there was less than a 5% chance of surgery, shockwave therapy or radio-wave therapy working. After six months of him being stood in a field, we finally had him put down.
*PUT DOWN - 23MAY2011*
Mario.
16hh, 23yo, Chestnut Thoroughbred, Gelding. I started loaning him on the 21st may 2011. He was perfect for me to just have fun on after Lurch. I decided it might be an idea to put him in the riding school once or twice a week, just whilst I did my GSCSE's, so when he settled in, he got checked out by the vet to see if he was suitable for the riding school, and it was then that we discovered he had a heart murmur. We got this checked out straight away and I am so thankful that we did because the next day, I found out he had an enlarged heart, and two thick valves, and if exercised could actually collapse underneath me at any moment! I ended up taking Mario back to his owner and a month later was put down. I don't regret having him, because he gave me something to think about when I had Lurch put down and he too will forever have a place in my heart!
*TAKEN BACK - 15 June 2011*
*PUT DOWN - 18 July 2011*
Tommy
17'1hh, 12yo, Grey IDxTB, Gelding. A horse that i have known for a few years who is a true gentle giant! I will be regularly riding and competing starting the 29 September 2011 Tommy for Martin and aim to do a lot of the competing that I missed out on doing with the last three. I can't wait for the upcoming season with him and hope to gain a lot from him.
My ultimate aim is to buy a new horse that I am able to compete at a good level, with the plan of going on to do BSJA, and climbing the ladder from there. I unfortunately haven't had the best start in the horse world, but hopefully aim to make a name for myself in the future.
