I've been playing accordion most of my life (started at age 8). My Dad played accordion "by ear". He insisted I have the opportunity he did not and so I was taught how to read music, but my Dad taught me how to play music "from the heart". I started playing "professionally" with my Dad (father and son) when I was age 10. I don't blame Lawrence Welk or the influence of the Beatle's for deep sixing the accordion, but as a teenager, my "friends" would not allow me to play accordion in their rock n roll band and I wasn't going to switch to Hammond B3 Organ (I've taught my kids that being different is O.K.). I ended up playing as a solo, putting myself through four years of college. Later, I supported my wife and I for the first three years of our marriage as a full-time musician playing in a duo (accordion and drums) four nights a week and extra parties on weekends. I have never been limited to a particular style of music, but play a wide variety including: waltzes, polkas, tangos, Latin, rock n roll, Italian, American, classical and I love Motown. In the 80's I led an 18 member Christian music ministry. We had the opportunity to perform at St. Patrick's Cathedral in NY City and the Nassau Coliseum. I have been extremely blessed to have had the opportunity to entertain and meet all kinds of wonderful and interesting people because of the accordion. Currently, I play occasionally along with a guitar player and extremely talented vocalist who also happens to be my best friend. Sometimes, we enlist the aid of a female vocalist who sings Italian/American songs. I hope I've made you smile with some of my postings. I enjoy discovering all kinds of talented people on YouTube from all over the world and I'm especially intersted in some of their comments about what I do. By the way, my Dad is 90 years old and still plays the accordion and enjoys music very much. God bless!!!
