@yooper2 What do you mean- AK-47s "in country" having different recoil than AKs in the U.S.? Do you mean AKs differing in caliber such as 7.62x39mm vs. 5.45x39mm? Anyway, the recoil of almost any combat rifle can be tamed by proper technique, skill, and strength.

The bolt carrier holding open when you baby it is an actual feature of many AKs. My WASR-10/63 did the same thing. Another thing though, is that the Polish 1960 AKs don't seem to have side rails for mounting stuff like scopes.
