About this user
My name is Terry Hurst. I left home on a bicycle on September 23rd 2009, without a dime in my pocket, in order to raise 5 million dollars for a community art center/museum in Salt Lake City. I am not a cyclist, adventurist, nor anything of the sort. I am simply a man, like so many other men and women, who want to act to make the world a better place. So, one day, I got off the couch and I acted. On my journey I have encountered thousands of people from thousands of backgrounds; lonely men who have sailed off from society with broken hearts, to powerful women of have created sustainable programs of social conscience. I am going to bring these people to you through these small videos. I am going to ask people, poets, writers, artists, famous people, anonymous people, anyone questions around five subjects that concern our future: Hope, change, Diversity, Community, and Art. Yes, I said art. Art is the first mover in all human creation. Every table, moon flight, anthem, automobile and gadget was first created in the mind of an artist. Art, as well, is the most powerful non-violent form for humanity to protest and express grievances and sufferings. I want to share these ideas that represent our ever-changing world and possibilities. I want to share the incredible beauty and complexity that I have encountered along the way. Please follow and take this journey with me.
We have an organization called Mestizo Institute of Culture and Art that r g engages youth and community. We build community through art. In our neighborhood we are attempting to build bridges to a better world and help fundamentally change the infrastructure of an underserved neighborhood. You can help us keep our dream alive by going to www.bikeforart.com where you can donate 1 dollar for every pixel and help us build the first art center/museum funded by the internet. You can subscribe to our MestizoArts video channel and you can follow the blog at blog.fivemilliondollarfund.org. Please help us get the word out and lets begin rebuilding our country, our continent and our world, one community, one neighborhood, one village at a time. Look for me on the road. I need food, lodging, media and places to present. Remember, love is a verb, it requires action.
