As a mesothelioma patient, Shelly Kozickis husband Craig lived over 10 years with peritoneal mesothelioma. He was diagnosed after experiencing symptoms of weight loss and a buildup of fluid in the abdomen (ascites). His doctors told him there was no effective treatment for this rare disease, and to get his affairs in order. Determined to fight, Craig had multiple surgeries and rounds of chemotherapy and radiation. Craig attributed his success in fighting peritoneal mesothelioma not only to the mesothelioma specialists he has relied on for years, but also to his wife Shelly, his daughter Emily, and his vast network of supporting friends and family - a testimony to the power of mesothelioma support groups for those battling this rare cancer.
As of the taping of this interview in 2007, Craig Kozicki was still battling against mesothelioma. Sadly, on April 1, 2009, Craig passed away. He was a wonderful man who inspired hope for countless families throughout the country facing a mesothelioma diagnosis.
