About this user
Melina was born in Houston, Texas to Coptic (Egyptian Christian) parents. Music was a part of her life since birth; always singing in church with her mother. Melina and her family moved to Los Angeles when she was a preteen where she was quickly recognized for her strong voice and stage presence. That is when her love affair, with the Theater, began. I always sang, but the theatre was a whole new world that I loved. My favorite role was the Stage Manager in Our Town. Eventually, theater and music led Melina to California State University, Fullerton, where she majored in vocal performance specializing in opera. Upon graduating she sang with Opera Pacific chorus and then toured with Portland Operas Young Artist program. Her repertoire included Adele (Di Fledermaus), Norina (Don Pasquale) and Despina (Cosi fan tutte). She later went on to sing in some community opera theaters in New York City and spent her summers singing regional recitals in Italy.
Yet, it was at a performance for the Dutch American Heritage Association, in Los Angeles, that a producer suggested she venture into the Pop arena. Always eager to try something new, this CD project is the beginning of that new journey. Salam is the first single release on her upcoming album. Melina has finally found a way to fuse her vocal skills and passion for her culture into her music.
