About Mehdi Rezania
Mehdi Rezania is an educator, composer and santur player.
Born in the city of Abadeh in the province of Fars, Iran, in 1977, I started learning to play the santur at 13 with Bahman Nowruzi and later studied with Mohammad Rasouli for about two years. He continued to study music on his own until I went to Tehran and learned santur under the supervision of Maestro Ardavan Kamkar.
I immigrated to Canada with my family in 1998. In 2004, he founded Baarbad Music with Toloe Roushenas.
I have studied psychology and music at York University. He has learned harmony and counterpoint under Art Levine, Arabic music under Bassam Shahouk, Balkan music under Irene Markoff and West African music under Kwasi Dunyo and Anna Melnikoff.
Rezania's focus at York, however, has been on composition, which he has been studying under the supervision of Michael Coghlan and David Mott.
I am currently finishing my MA in Music/Composition at York University
