Two high school best friends who were influenced by the same music began their journey on May 28, 2009 when they performed the song "Her Eyes Say Yes" by Hit The Lights at their high schools talent show. After recognizing their potential in the music business Kobi and Devin began recording their first acoustic release titled "Someone Else EP" in the Summer of 2009 at SpearHead Studios with a long time friend named Spencer Baldwin. With a long year of recording and playing shows they finally released their 6 track EP on June 6, 2010.
Throughout the recording process, Kobi and Devin were playing shows non-stop. They played their first actual live show at the popular Chain Reaction in Anaheim on November 3, 2009 and at the GlassHouse in Pomona on December 18th, 2009. After gaining a decent sized fan base they joined a close friend named Christian Lee for a weekly spot every Wednesday at Neptunes in Sunset Beach before the end of 2009. Devin & Kobi spotted a talented drummer named Brandan Maddox at Neptunes in early 2010. Within the first week of meeting, Brandan landed the spot on drums. It was now obvious that Meaning In Masterpiece was putting a live/full band together, but they needed a bass player. A close friend named Ryan Naglich of "Pacific Dub" excitingly filled the spot while in search for a designated bass player. Meaning In Masterpiece now had a 4-piece full band ready to go and displayed their live energetic shows at Neptunes for a few months until the weekly Neptunes shows ended abruptly in late March. On March 25, 2010 Kobi, Devin, Brandan and Ryan played the Battle of the Bands at Goldenwest College. Towards the end of April Ryan left for tour with "Pacific Dub" which left MIM empty of a bass player. They decided to keep it acoustic for awhile and played local shows with Brandan playing percussion behind them. In the summer of 2010 Meaning In Masterpiece was offered to play a 2-day back-to-back set at the well-known Orange County Fair, where thousands of people attended on July 24th and July 25th. With this they gained great exposure and got their music out too many new people. Once the two shows were over they knew they were ready to find the bass player they were in desperate need for, so Devin turned to a good friend (from their former band "The Moment Strikes"). Colton Toles was named the new bassist of Meaning In Masterpiece in early August 2010.
On August 24th they performed in Long Beach at DiPiazza's with a well-known band "The Dares". This was the show where MIM knew they could progress and do bigger things, but there was something missing. They pursued to find another guitarist to create a bigger and better sound. After trying out a few guitarists, they knew they found the perfect fit. Ira George, (formerly of "Catalina Burning"), was announced as the 2nd guitarist. On October 21, 2010 Meaning In Masterpiece played their first show as a five-piece band in Long Beach to a good sized audience. Everything went as planned, but there were small problems circulating within a few members of the band. One week before their show in Long Beach on November 5, 2010, the drummer Brandan Maddox suddenly abandoned the group for unknown reasons.
Faced with the challenge of finding a new drummer, they immediately looked to fellow musician and drummer Aaron Casanova (drummer of the band "Ari") to fill the spot. He accepted with no hesitation. November 5, 2010 brought a whole new feel and outlook too Meaning In Masterpiece's sound, energetic performance and musical future once they left the stage at DiPiazza's in Long Beach, CA. Composed of 5 talented musicians, Meaning In Masterpiece has no intention of slowing down. Stay on the look out for their new EP in the making.
