If you watch closely he is using all right hand. He lays his first finger accross the strings(where the 24th fret would be) and picks with his ring finger creating the harmonics.

I have an old music guitar book put out by Arlen Roth and BB King wrote a little piece. Anyways BB recommended learning how to read music. He said he couldn't read music and wished he had learned.
