\\\Maytag is a project formed by the collaborative efforts of the posters of GAMEFAQs Music: Metal board, number 235. The idea behind the project is to mock Sunn O))). Sunn O))) is said by some to sound like a broken refrigerator. 235 took this idea to a new extreme by literally recording the sound of their own personal refrigerators (and other household appliances) and adding effects to them to make them sound BWO)))M-Y akin to Sunn O))).

The name \\\Maytag is also meant as a parody of Sunn O))). Sunn O))) named themselves after the logo on their amplifiers, adding parenthesis to make it look exactly like it. \\\Maytag does the exact same thing, taking the name from the Maytag logo (which has three backslashes in front of the word Maytag).
