Matt has been playing guitar since the age of 5 and made his first paid gig appearance at the age of 11, standing in for local rock band Catch 23; something he did regularly for a few years before joining up with a female singer to form a duo called Vivid Sky. Vivid Sky subsequently added a bass player and drummer and they began performing at local venues to great response.

Gradually song writing began to take shape and the band got the attention of veteran producer Stuart Epps, who has worked with Led Zeppelin, Elton John, Paul Rodgers, Robbie Williams and Oasis. In July 2009 Vivid Sky recorded their four track 'Man in Black' EP at Prism Studios in Stoke.

During this time, whilst constantly practicing his guitar technique and playing in local bands, Matt also began to develop his own production and engineering skills. He is currently studying sound engineering at college but prior to this had already been a selected as a 'recording of the week' artist by the software company Cakewalk. Matt also won one of 15 places at the South West Music School in its first year of existence.

Matt is influenced by many artists naming Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), Alex Lifeson (Rush) and Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath) along with modern influences from John Petrucci (Dream Theater), Marty Friedman (Megadeth) and Mark Tremonti (Alter Bridge/Creed).

He has gradually built up his arsenal of guitars and amps over the past few years and now plays a John Petrucci Musicman JP6, a PRS Singlecut and a PRS Custom 24 through a Mesa Boogie Mark V and 2 x 12 Rectifier cabinet. He uses a Voodoo Lab Ground Control switcher and a TC Electronics G-Major 2 effects unit.
