About this user
Teaching mathematics is my passion. I have over a decade of experience teaching mathematics at the high school, undergraduate, and graduate level and was cited twice as a most influential professor.
My research interests include Lie groups, Lie algebras, and their representations. A group is a mathematical device for measuring symmetry. Sophus Lie (pronounced Lee) was a Norwegian mathematician who used certain groups to study differential equations. Representations are where groups meet linear algebra, and they have major applications in number theory, theoretical physics, and elsewhere.
Outside academia, I worked as a health actuary. Actuaries are financial mathematicians primarily concerned with long term risk. Typically they work in insurance related fields. Actuaries are required to pass a long series of exams to attain their credentials.
In my free time, I enjoy reading, martial arts (primarily jiu-jitsu), and somehow dance. Long ago I studied eskrima (Filipino stick-and-knife); hence the teaching stick, which has been retired for a regulation pointer.
