Clerk Saunders
Oh it was a dark and a rainy night as ever rained from town to town Clerk Saunders and his lady gay were walking in the fields so brown.
A bed, a bed, Clerk Saunders said, a bed, a bed for you and me never a one said the lady gay until that we two married be.
For it's I have seven brothers bold and they are all valiant men and if they knew a man did tread my bower, his life would not go long with him.
Then you'll take me up all in your arms and carry me into your bed that you may swear and save your oath that your bower floor I ne'er did tread.
Then you'll take a long cloth in your hands, you'll hold it up before your eyes that you may swear and save your oath that you ne'er saw Sandy since yestere'en.
Well they were not long into the room nor yet long slept into the night when in and came her seven brothers with all their torches burning bright.
And out and spoke the first of them oh but it's long since this love began and out and spoke the next of them it's a sin to kill a sleeping man.
And out and spoke the third of them oh we should go and let him be and out and spoke the fourth of them he'll not be killed this night by me.
And out and spoke the fifth of them oh but their love is wondrous keen and out and spoke the sixth of them it's a sin to kill a sleeping man.
But out and spoke the seventh brother aye and an angry man was he if there were no more men alive Clerk Saunders butcher I would be.
And he's ta'en out his trusty sword he drew it three times through the straw and through and through Clerk Saunders body he made that trusty rapier go.
And there they lay in each other's arms until the day began to dawn and kindly to him she did say oh it's time my dear you were away. Oh you are the sleepiest young man she said that ever my two eyes did see you've lain all night into my arms and I'm sure it is a shame to be.
Awake awake Clerk Saunders she said awake awake for sin and shame for the sheets they are asweat she said and I am afraid we will be ta'en
Then she turned the blanket to the foot she turned the sheets unto the wall and there she saw his bloody wounds and aye she let the tears downfall
Oh woe be to my seven brothers they killed him sleeping in his bed if they had fought him in battle fair there would many a drop of blood been shed.
Oh there's ne'er a coat will go on my back and ne'er a comb will go in my hair neither coal not candlelight shall shine in my bower anymore.

Oh Are You Sleeping Maggie
Dark and rainy is the night, There's not a star in all the carry. Lightnings gleam across the sky , and winds drive with winter fury.
Oh are you sleeping Maggie? Oh are you sleeping Maggie? Let me in, for loud the linn is roaring o'er the warlock's craggie.
Fearful sighs the boor tree bank the rifted woods roar wild and dreary. Loud the iron gate does clank and cry of owlets makes me eerie.
Oh are you sleeping Maggie? Oh are you sleeping Maggie? Let me in, for loud the linn is roaring o'er the warlock's craggie.
Above my breath I dare not speak, for fear I raise your sleepless daddie. Cold's the blast upon my cheek, oh rise, rise my bonnie lady.
Oh are you sleeping Maggie? Oh are you sleeping Maggie? Let me in, for loud the linn is roaring o'er the warlock's craggie.
She opened the door, she let him in, he cast aside his dripping plaidie. Blow your worst, you rain and wind, since Maggie now I'm in beside ye.
Oh are you sleeping Maggie? Oh are you sleeping Maggie? Let me in, for loud the linn is roaring o'er the warlock's craggie.

The Irish Girl
As I roved out one May morning down by a river side In gazing all around me, oh an Irish girl I spied. A tear fell down her rosy cheek and she began to cry Oh my love, he's gone to America and he's quite forsaken me.
I went to church last Sunday, my love he passed me by I knew his mind was changing by the roving of his eye I knew his mind was altered to a girl of high degree Oh Willie, lovely Willie, oh your love has wounded me.
Last night as I lay on my bed, so sick and bad was I I called for a napkin around my head, around my head to tie. Was he as bad in love as me I would surely mend again. Oh love it is a killing thing, did you ever feel the pain?
I wish I was a butterfly, I would fly to my love's breast. I wish I was a linnet, I would sing my love to rest. I wish I was a nightingale, I would sit and sing so clear. I'd sing a song for you, false love, for once I loved you dear.
