Combining sumptuous, rich and tender vocals with intense, touchable emotion, Marina Laslo is an artist of the highest calibre. Marina is a classically trained opera singer from Moscow now residing in London to pursue her love for jazz and brings with her such wonderfully ethereal qualities and such a unique jazz vocal that she is fast becoming singled out as one to watch in 2011.
With influences like Frank Sinatra, Andy Williams and Ella Fitzgerald, Marina's forthcoming release 'Night & Day' was masterminded by multi-million selling producer Robin Millar, whose CV includes Alison Moyet, Chrissie Hynde, Sade and David Gray.
Marina has already enjoyed some accolades from her previous foray's and is very well known among Classic FM listeners for a lot of her contemporary classical albums which have seen her perform in the past at The Barbican and Southbank's Queen Elizabeth Hall. She also hit the British headlines briefly when she was romantically linked with celebrity chef Jean-Christophe Novelli!
Now Marina is ready to give audiences a new insight into her diverse repertoire. Since an early age and burgeoning career, Marina has maintained an assiduous, hardworking work ethic. Reaching this point in her career has seen Marina struggle against adversity to make her place known. Despite descending from Russian high society, Marina has faced many difficulties in order to learn and master her talents. As a child, Marina juggled music lessons with her life at home caring for her sick mother. She has never taken anything for granted or lost sight of her goals.
Marina's new life in the UK has seen her absorb a new range of influences that have shaped her new 'jazz' sound. Inspired by the fashions of London, her love of Jazz and the countless live music venues of the capital, Marina has emerged as an incredibly confident performer, whose dramatic stage shows, impeccable voice and outspoken personality, has gained her some notoriety among many of the UK's top broadsheets. Despite a nostalgic fondness of her life in St. Petersburg, Marina has immersed herself in the different cultures that shape Britain and has adapted her voice to suit the engaging ambience of her latest album.
She has even invented a new genre for fun called Hip Opera as found on the track 'From Russia With Love' which features MC Keety General and samples the 'Montagues and Capulets Theme' from 'Romeo and Juliet' by Sergei Prokofiev (most commonly known as the theme tune to BBC's The Apprentice). Marina is certainly diverse!
