Mare Nostrum is a modification for Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 being developed by Sandstorm Productions, which formed in July 2006 upon the merger of the Burning Sands and Campagna Italiana mod teams. Since the union the team has gone from strength to strength and produced the first public beta version of Mare Nostrum in March 2008.
Mare Nostrum has enjoyed wide ranging media exposure and was voted into the top 100 unreleased mods in the ModDB 2007 and 2008 Mod of the Year awards, along with features on Gamespy, AMD GAME! and IGN.
On the 17th October 2008, Mare Nostrum became the first third party game mod to be made available through Steam.
