The Salamander's design is actually very fitting, the Salamanders from Warhammer 40k(the franchise this mod was based on) use scale-y designs on their armors and weapons, the flames and slimey-greens are probably based on the Salamander's use of fire and corrosive weapons over the standard weapon...

This is probably a reference to System Shock 2, where early in the game there's just a random-ass basketball, but if you bring it with you the whole game through you'll find a hoop you can shoot the ball into. I don't think you get anything out of it though.

Donte kinda seems crappy-looking, the music is also pretty bad, and the outlook is seeing mediocre, but I will state now that the combat has some similar aesthetics to DMC4 in terms of grappling as a major aspect of combat, albeit it's a tad slow.
