The Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople in Turkey, is one of the fourteen autocephalous Eastern Orthodox churches. It is headed by the Ecumenical Patriarch, who has the status of "first among equals" among the world's Eastern Orthodox bishops. According to tradition, it has its roots in the preaching of the Apostle Andrew in Constantinople (then Byzantium) in AD 38. Its current leader is Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I.
The Ottoman empire and its succesor the Republic of Turkey is doing its best to eliminate the existance of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the presence of the Greek minority thus violating the International Law.
The very life of the leader of 300,000,000 Orthodox Christians is in great danger!

Turkey has a rather dark past which modern Turks wish to erase.The U.S. Congressial Committee voted to recognize the mass killing of 1,500,000 Armenians at the end of World War 1, by the Turkish Army, as GENOCIDE.
The Swedish Parliament branded the killing of Pontian Greeks and Armenians by the Turkish forces during World War I as "GENOCIDE."
