Though my instruments are guitar and French Horn, I think the B3 may be the coolest of them all!

@andreshark94 I'm a horn player and can explain the reasons why we put our right hand in the bell:

1. It gives the horn a darker tone

2. It helps control intonation, which is extremely challenging

3. Hand-stopping, which has a very brassy sound, almost like a Harmon mut in a trumpet.

The Amazon reviews claimed a Bruckner influence, which is quite prevalent, moreso than Mahler, I believe. The closest to a post-Mahler Symphony is the Natursymphonie by von Hausegger, a work that has connections to early Mahler, ie, 2 and 3. Late Mahler seem to have been a much bigger influence...

Despite being recorderd and released in 69, this wsa the first chart in Rhino's 70's anthology. It's also first on my iPod pop playlist. One of the great pop songs ever. Pat Upton is just a marvelous singer.

@BrainiacFingers: You're spot on concerning Boulez. I'ver performed Mahler before, and the annotations are incredibly detailed. Just follow the score with little interpretation and it will be amazing. No one before or since had command of an orchestra or orchestration like Mahler.
