Motorcycles, and non-OBD-II vehicles will cut spark, mainly because it is easier to kill power to the ignition module than it is to cut power to 3 or more different injectors.

@slingblade1991 The engine may be under a load, but when the fuel injectors shut off, the engine, immediately, is no longer under load. There will not be a detonation from residual fuel, because the fuel injectors always fire in-time with the intake valves, whether the vehicle is direct-injected...

@CoChicken1337 All OBD-II engines cut fuel, or fuel and spark (never spark alone) in order to prevent damage to the catalytic converters. Cutting fuel to protect the engine does not harm the turbos because they still keep some spool for reasons that are obviously too complex for you to understan...

@troy1965aug Even on a straight road I let off the throttle quickly when power shifting. You don't gain anything keeping the throttle wide open.
If you shift hard in second, keeping the throttle wide open, and spin the tires for two seconds, you went slower than the guy in the same car that did...

@troy1965aug Most racers do let off the throttle when shifting then get on the throttle when engaged in gear, two reasons for this.
1) If you race a car that actually makes good horsepower, this keeps you from burning the tires when changing gears, not good in corners, and it makes you slower.

Speed limiters are there for a reason.
It's because the government mandates that the car must be limited at the speed rating to the OE tires. Z-rated tires are rated for 149+ m.p.h., but the government mandates 155 m.p.h. for production vehicles with Z-rated tires as OE.

@Snakes709 I researched it on NHRA.com and Google. It looks like some tracks automatically subract the 0.500 seconds off of the RT when the timeslip gets printed, so a -0.001 is a redlight on some tracks, as opposed to a 0.499 on others.

@04wrxwag Every engine has a powerband which begins at peak torque rpm and ends at peak horsepower rpm.
This is usually defined by fuel injector timing, cam duration and timing, stroke to rod-length ratio, etc.
Reving past your powerband makes you slower, and puts excessive wear on the engine.
