Born on June 1st, 1988 as Michael Ikeda to two Japanese immigrants, Rising Sun has recently started to get his feet wet in the Toronto hip hop scene. Currently, an undergraduate student, Rising Sun is adamant to achieve a doctorate degree, and pursue hip hop as a means to his goal; to edutain, as KRS-1 coined the term, Japanese youth who remain oblivious to the pressing social issues of the day. Rising Sun hopes to define what the ever elusive term of "realness" is through his music. Although he can be timid at times, his introspective personality allows him to analyze and observe what others may not. Also, growing up as an only child who experienced many family losses and a myriad of psychological challenges have made him a stronger person. With the help of D.O. who set the Guinness World Record for the Longest Freestyle, and Introspect, an established Toronto MC, Rising Sun has seen and heard first-hand how difficult and unglamorous the Canadian music industry is. He is not naïve to its realities, and with his unrivaled worth ethic and emphasis on lyricism, he hopes to make a name for himself in 2008 and beyond.
