The MSQC is a collaboration of 34 Michigan hospitals dedicated to overall surgical quality improvement, including better patient care and lower costs. We offer two unique features:
1.We use the gold standard of surgical quality reporting systems the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP) which produces very reliable data because it is standardized, audited and risk-adjusted.
2.The MSQC receives full financial support from BCBSM/BCN. This partnership is based on the understanding that incremental costs from poor surgical quality are borne by both the provider and payer, and that both groups benefit financially from better patient care.
These are the six steps to the MSQCs quality improvement process:
1.Establish a collaborative group
2.Establish a standardized reporting format (ACS NSQIP)
3.Identify variation of outcomes within the group
4.Identify best performers
5.Identify best practices
6.Distribute the information
