Brainpower starts to rhyme in the mid eighties (inspired by Run DMC, Eric B & Rakim, LL Cool J and Kool Moe Dee amongst many others) .In the late 80s the MC's writes his first songs and ever since he has been working on his career as a solo artist. After ten years of honing his craft as a furious battle MC, he wins the critically acclaimed dutch 'Grote Prijs van Nederland' contest for upcoming, unsigned acts in Amsterdam, 1998. Together with his live-partner DJ TLM he wins awards in all but one category (that of Best singer). The Best MC, Best DJ (TLM), People's Choice Award and the Main Prize.

Dropping seven albums throughout the following ten years, Brainpower is considered an icon. Because of his diverse quality music and dedication creating it he has been a top name in the Benelux for years. Yet ,maintaining his credibility and his hard-earned critical acclaim. Being a kid from 'The Golden Age' of Hip Hop, the eighties, his repertoire always captures universal emotions, never losing the essence of - and his passion for - Hip Hop culture, as well as his intense love for many other music genres.
After having had a #1 song in both Holland and Belgium, three gold records, two platinum awards, numerous nominations and winning at least ten (!) important awards (including MTV Europe Award for Best Dutch Act-1st Dutch MC ever to win this) plus having done nearly 2,500 shows during many years of extensive touring, Brainpower continued work on his international debut album.

December 22nd 2008 Brainpower received the State Lifetime Achievement Award in Amsterdam at the legendary venue the Milky Way.

In 2009 Brainpower opens up for D12 in Amsterdam and works on new repertoire in the USA and Europe.

In September 2009 he embarks on a 36 date tour throughout the Benelux to coincide with the release of his Greatest Hits Box Set 'Mijn Manier': Two CD's and a DVD to celebrate the rapper's 10 year anniversary since his debut single in 1999

October 17th 2009 he is given a multiplatinum award for sales over 200,000 records, making him the BEST SELLING DUTCH SOLO MC OF ALL TIMES

November 5th 2009 Brainpower receives Gold and Platinum awards in Belgium.

July 2010 a (side project) mini-album is released named 'Dub & Dwars'. The EP, containing 6 re-recorded reggae versions of Brainpower hits & classics plus an all new title track, is partially recorded in Jamaica and hits #1 in the Dutch iTunes chart as well as the online sales Bol.com chart (both in the Reggae genre division)

Brainpower digitally releases new songs on a regular basis and is currently working on finishing his new ('english speaking') solo album.

The track 'Light It Up' and current single 'People' (plus 4 more tunes) are featured in the new movie 'Body Language', dropping Oct 6th 2011
