Oldskool raver . Dj and promoter from back in the day . I recently dusted off my vinyls and Im back in the mix .
I started raving towards the end of 89 , we used to travel from Totnes to Plymouth ( South Devon ) on a Friday and Saturday night , Zenas was the first place in the SW to start with the Acid house scene and we were gladly part of it , things then progressed to The Warehouse and Acadamy in Plymouth , possibly 2 of the best venues anywhere . Both with 'legal' capacitys of 1500 although these where often exceeded!
During these early years I was running a small sound system ' Pirate Sounds' with a good mate of mine Mark. We were doing small scale free parties and a few licensed events with upto about 700 people. We were in real demand and had to turn alot of work down , we kept our nights special by only doing 3 nights every month! By the end of 1993 the scene was changing , it split into several pieces ( jungle , house/garage , happy hardcore and techno basically ).
We also lost our main monthly income and venue , Totnes Civic Hall. The council finally got their way and closed it down due to our success at putting on raves there , they used the old excuse about noise!
This was when I took the oppertunity to take a much needed break from the scene , infact I went to Australia for a year. On my return I never bothered getting properly back into what was left of the rave scene.
In January this year I dusted off all my oldskool vinyls and Im now djing again with a passion. Im spinning most stuff between 1990 -95.
I have a regular Sunday 5 till 7slot on Headrushlive.com which keeps the wheels of steel turning plus Im getting out to some nice underground parties aswell.
If you love your Oldskool as much as me youll know the buzz never dies!
Im now doing my bit again in keeping that vibe alive!
