About Me:
LSS has a long history of serving the most vulnerable members of society. The agency's roots go back to 1881, when a compassionate group of Lutherans founded the first Lutheran social ministry in Louisiana to care for children orphaned by the typhoid plague.
In 1926, like-minded Lutherans established an asylum for widows and orphans in Round Rock, Texas.
In January 1993, the two agencies merged to become Lutheran Social Services of the South, Inc.
While much has changed in the ensuing 128 years, there are still circumstances that leave people in need - physically, emotionally and spiritually. The mission of LSS has remained constant: to provide help, healing, and hope in the name of Jesus Christ.
As society's needs have changed, LSS has sought to respond to them in meaningful and effective ways. The agency's mission continues to be vibrant and relevant as we position ourselves to respond to future needs.
