About this user
My sculpture incorporates highly textured surfaces that are the coverings, the skin or the wrappings of the human form, used as metaphors for the psychological and spiritual aspects of being human. The biomorphic shapes and the lush floral patterning in the relief represent growth and transformation. The figures are often androgynous, sometimes with bald heads, sometimes without ears, as a reminder to listen to the voice within. Though the faces are often expressionless, the textured surfaces are intended to suggest intense emotion, swirling chaos, and are inspired by the textures incorporated in tapestry, embroidery and quilting. The pieces reveal harmony as well as discord, noise as well as quiet, and contrasts between light and dark. They are my attempt to represent a part of the human process.
