TIBET IS BURNING

Tibet is an occupied country. Over one million Tibetans have died as a direct result of China's occupation. Over 6,000 monasteries have been destroyed. In Tibet today, there is no freedom of speech, religion, movement, and assembly.

Twelve Tibetans have set themselves on fire in recent months in a desperate effort to draw the world's attention to the oppressive conditions of Chinese occupation in Tibet. We must respond!

The Dalai Lama quotes a Tibetan saying:

"'Tragedy should be utilized as a source of strength.' No matter what sort of difficulties, how painful experience is, if we lose our hope, that's our real disaster."

We must stem the tide of desperation in Tibet by letting Tibetans know we've heard them and we're spreading the word far and wide. Our hope -- and theirs -- lies in global awareness. The more people who know about the crisis in Tibet, the stronger a catalyst we can be for change.

Together, we must tell China to withdraw its troops, remove the checkpoints, stop the arbitrary arrests, release the innocent, and respect the Tibetan people's basic right to live in peace and freedom. Inaction on our part will only lead to further desperation on the part of the Tibetan people.
