"Yes there should be the ability to put in custom sprites however. This is nothing like the snes editor for super mario world. Adding custom sprites will work via the objects engine. I have alot of coding to do before this is even possible however. So keep waiting and watch for updates. I have another update coming this week!"

This is a game engine dedicated to my remake of donkey kong country 2. The game engine does a few things , the first it is trying to mimick the game mechanics of Donkey Kong Country 2 as acurately as possible. This is only in alpha stages and I have not released a demo yet but I will soon. In the near future.
Any questions about this project leave comment

A second demonstration and update showing off what I have added. I am working as I said in my recent posts on forums, on the barrel system and the object system. I know that the engine itself doesn't look very 'pretty' but I assure you it's simply a matter of pasting in tiles in place of those see through blocks. It's that easy. Most of the levels in DKC2 seem to only use one BG layer on the SNES in order to draw the tiles in the level so that shouldn't be too hard to immitate. I already have two layers integrated into the engine PLUS sprites, PLUS objects. So. It's starting to look more like an snes style game engine =p

This is a work in progress of a game engine which mimicks the mechanics of the donkey kong country 2 game, but not very acurately.
It's intention is to be a general platforming engine. For building any games on. The engine when done will handle basic collision and platforming physics. It will allow paralex scrolling of multiple and maybe even transparent backgrounds (They will need to be smaller to start and later the engine will allow for larger ones)
The whole point of this is to have an open ended 2D game engine that allows the levels to be as large as the level designer needs them to be without eating up lots of memory. Without getting into the details of coding, the game engine will be open source later but I will be making a commercial game out of it. I'll encourage other people to use it to make commercial games with as well. But you might need your own copy of playbasic to do that.
I won't announce any other details as of now. The project is only starting and it isn't very far ahead. I plan to continue work on it and possibly try some things out with making a clone of mega man style or even a metroid type game. I want this engine to be flexible. Any input or comments is helfpul.
I am a part time hobbyist programmer I don't do this for cash. Please comment below. If you think there's something I should do with this engine let me know and I'll try to do it but until I finish the basics of it, I won't be releasing anything but demo videos. Thank you.
DISCLAIMER I don't own playbasic, or donkey kong country or anything made by nintendo personally though I did purchase a user liscense for playbasic.
