The scene is heartbreaking, they don't need words. This remind me of "Swan Song" when Dean kneel on the ground where Sam died/vanished. He just kneel and stared in silence at the ground, not speaking because the scene doesn't need words, the emotion was overwhelming.

continue...Dean went to hell and was turned into torturer and came out of it feeling remorse and guilt for enjoying hurting others to block his own pain, which goes against everything Dean is. There is no feeling of paying his dues or getting redemption for Dean.
