If you are going to target shoot you should put the gun on a rest. Even while hunting you should rest the gun against a tree or on something whenever possible.

The real advantage of a .22 is its cheap and you can find ammo "everywhere". It is a good small game caliber but i'd leave it at that. There is a reason nobody uses it for police duty.
