About Me:

This group is for people who want to see a more peaceful world, and are ready to take action to make it a reality. The Council's political action seeks to:

* stop the spread and use of WMD
* stop a war with Iran
* find non-military solutions to int'l conflict
* keep the military budget in check

Council for a Livable World was founded in 1962 by eminent nuclear physicist Leo Szilard and other scientists who worked in the pioneer days of atomic weapons.

The goal of these men and women, who knew firsthand the nature of nuclear weapons, was to warn the public and Congress of the threat of nuclear war and lead the way to rational arms control and nuclear disarmament.

With the end of the Cold War, the Council's mission to rid the world of nuclear weapons and pursue a responsible national security policy is as relevant as ever. Today we help grassroots individuals like yourself take political actions. Here are examples of what we help activists do:

* sign petitions
* get background information on the issues
* send letters to the media
* talk to Members of Congress
* support candidates in close electoral races

Along with our sister organization and research center, the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation, we work directly with Members of Congress to inform them about important national security issues. The Council is driven by its grassroots membership, including you.

Peace is a bourgeois pipe dream. It is a world of statis,of the sick creature comforts which only come about by the explotation of others. It is a world ruled by the degenerate leftovers of christian morality, in short it is a living nightmare. Mans nature is struggle and conflict,it is a world of conquest and death.

your message is strong, i respect those who strive for peace, no matter how they go about doing it. Peace is utopia. Peace is perfection. But, i must ask, in your peace movement, why not abolish the military entirely? If your movement succeeded, why would you want to keep any resemblance of military around, for it could spark a return to violence and essentially destroy your "livable world" as you call it?

sick of goverment telling us what we can and cant do, most of all the laws they seem to pass just take more and more freedom away. as for war they are and will always be people fighting
