@Machoman3227 It's been stated that OoT's Link is the Hero's Shade by Hyrule Historia. But he is NOT the result of the ALttP continuity taking hold. If anything, it's far more likely that the Hero's Shade died of old age before ever becoming the Hero's Shade.

@Skaz9000 Maybe. It could also be a shout out, or a reference to the fact that Intelligent Systems worked on Mario games before. (I do remember hearing a similar theme in Paper Mario 64 as well.)
