Kelsey Shelton Smith was born on December 28, 2002. The first two years of her life was perfectly normal. Then her mother, Raye Dawn Smith, started dating Michael Lee Porter. In January of 2005, Kelsey fell and broke her collarbone. Her paternal grandmother, Kathie Briggs, then accused Raye of child abuse and filed for an emergency guardianship. Kelsey lived with Kathie from January to May of 2005. She then lived with her maternal grandmother, Gayla Smith, for a month before custody was given back to Raye. In August, Kelsey, Raye and Mike were in a car accident. When the Briggs saw the injuries from that, they immediately accused Raye of abuse again. On October 11, 2005, Kelsey was killed by her stepfather, Michael Lee Porter. He is currently in prison serving a 30 year sentence. Raye was also charged and wrongfully convicted of enabling child abuse and was sentenced to 27 years in prison. Raye has since appealed at the 10th Curciut Appellant Court and her case is currently being reviewed by five Appellant Judges. I'm hoping Raye gets a new, fair and impartial trial and will be exonerated.
