[lib-er-uhl, lib-ruhl] Liberalism is a political ideology that was committed to the ideal of limited government, freedom of individuals religion, speech, press, assembly, and free markets. It drew on the economics of Adam Smith & Jean Batiste Say, a psychological understanding of individual liberty, natural law and utilitarianism. Liberals established political parties that were called "liberal", although in the United States classical liberalism came to dominate both existing major political parties. Liberalism replaced ancient monarchies with Constitutional Republics around the world, ended slavery, and used the free market to develop the world economically. My name is Phil Marrone, host of LiberalCast. I am a (classical) Liberal, or libertarian.
LiberalCast is based on the philosophical defense of these theories, and to provide a community for intellectual-minded people to develop their ideas in an international forum. LiberalCast will cover categories such as philosophy, literary criticism, economics, current events, international relations, multiculturalism, women's issues, and anything cultural or intellectual.
