This year in American politics portends to be the most important time in ALL of our lives. The country we love has been struggling to find its voice in a new kind of world that often brings fear to American hearts. Never before were we attacked as directly and fearfully as we were on 9/11/2001.

Our response has taken us to a place of anger, and concern as citizens, and our government has used our desire to get through this era to sell us on everything from wars without justification, to record gas prices while oil companies make record profits, while the poor in America become poorer each month.

We can restore America's place in the world as a desired ally, and make Americans' future more secure nationally and internationally starting this November.

Our friends and confidants have stated this on their own blogs with a HUGE amount of eloquence. Our candidate won last night, but that's not the victory we seek, at least not yet.

Our first song on this site "One-Twenty-O-Nine" looks forward to the change that comes with the end of the Bush administration. The time for change started last night, stays in the wings for the next 76 days, and THEN the hard work begins.

Whether you are friends our age in the second half of life looking at what we're going to leave your kids and grandkids, or whether you are our young friends and family, it's now completely up to YOU. Obama is the centerpiece of the change we've been hoping and praying for, but his election doesn't make democracy a spectator sport again. Nothing, yes NOTHING is going to REALLY change unless the energy we commit now matches or exceeds the energy and commitment it took to get us here.

So go out and feed the poor, every community has an outreach for that. Go and tell your congress person that we need to end the war in Iraq now, not in 4 years (but write or call that person and say so NOW, not in 4 years). Offer even a LITTLE helping hand to your neighbor who's been the victim of the economic melt down (even just a dinner can help).

Equally important, and maybe this is the toughest one - GO HUG A REPUBLICAN! The change we've been talking about begins with healing divisions in our country and our world. God knows Sarah Palin has helped create a lot more of those in the past 3 months. Are you a big enough person to be part of the change that heals and restores?

People get ready, change is gonna come.
