Lazarita Carmen Perez, Dramatic Soprano. B.M., Vocal Performance Hunter College cum laude. Miss Perez has sung over 70 performances of fully-staged operas with Amato Opera and Dicapo Opera and has nearly two decades of concert experience. She sings in English, Spanish, Latin, French, English, German, Czech and Italian. She has won many prestigious awards including the National Hispanic Scholarship based on a 4.0 GPA, scholarships to the Mannes College of Music for voice and classical guitar, Berklee College of Music for guitar, the Bowdoin Summer Music Festival, the Westminster Choir College Summer Vocal program, Metropolitan Opera star Regina Resnik's Alumni scholarship and a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. At the early age of 17, she sang for New Jersey Network's Images/Imagenes Hispanic Talent Search. At that time, she was one of only two state finalists for NJ Talent Expo. She has performed with over a dozen choirs throughout her musical education including Sound Tapestry of Hoboken and Schola Cantorum of Jersey City, NJ. This past summer she sang six concerts on a ten day tour of Vienna, Eisenstadt, Ceský Krumlov, Salzburg and Prague. Her recitals at the Bayonne Public Library, Lang Recital Hall and El Taller Latino in Manhattan were very well-received. Her most recent concerts at Second Reformed Church in Jersey City and St. Henry's Church in 2008 received a standing ovation. In 2009, she was a featured soloist for "Inspiraciones de Jose Marti", an event celebrating the works of the great Cuban poet . This semester she was accepted into a vocal repertoire class at Juilliard. Famed soprano Phyllis Bryn-Julson once compared Miss Perez's voice to the legendary Metropolitan opera star Kirsten Flagstad and called her a "true dramatic soprano". She teaches voice, piano and classical guitar.
