A man was arrested this afternoon following a nearly 20-minute police chase during which he rammed into two law enforcement vehicles on the Gulf Freeway, authorities said.
The chase began after Harris County Precinct 8 deputy constables as well as Houston Police officers responded to a call around 3:49 p.m. at the Palms Apartments in the 1300 block of Gemini in Clear Lake, where a woman told them her husband had assaulted her, said Precinct 8 Chief Deputy Phil Sandlin.
While searching the complex, a deputy constable located the 25-year-old man, whose identity was not released, driving a 2008 silver Honda into the complex, Sandlin said.
When the deputy constable identified the man and asked him to step out of the vehicle, he refused and put his car in reverse, nearly striking the deputy and running into an HPD patrol car, Sandlin said.
The man fled in his car, first driving into a parking garage and eventually leading authorities onto Bay Area Boulevard before driving north on Gulf Freeway, Sandlin said.
During the pursuit, the man rammed his car into the back of an HPD officer's patrol car near Gulf Freeway and Clear Lake City Boulevard, officials said. The collision caused the patrol car to strike the center median and flip over, Sandlin said.
The officer was taken to Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, said HPD spokesman Sgt. John Chomiak, adding that the officer was reportedly in good condition.
The chase ended about 4:18 p.m. on Gulf Freeway near Broadway after the man again rammed his car into a Precinct 8 vehicle, in which the deputy was attempting to throw spikes onto the road, Sandlin said.
The man then lost control of the Honda, which came to a stop after striking the concrete barrier.
When authorities removed the man from the passenger side of the vehicle, he allegedly cut one of the deputy constables on the forearm with a box cutter, Sandlin said. The deputy constable was taken to St. John's Hospital, where he being treated and reportedly in good condition.
The man faces charges of at least one count of aggravated assault of a police officer and evading arrest in a motor vehicle.
No further information was immediately available.

Commented mainman Chrigel Glanzmann:
"The song "A Rose For Epona" appears about in the middle of the storyline - so, it tells about the time when the gaulish war broke out already. The Helvetians decided to leave their homeland and migrate to the west coast of Gallia, to start a new life there.
In the time the song tells about, many Helvetians had to face pretty much shattered hopes. And so does the protagonist, from whose viewpoint the song is written: A young gaulish woman. She was part of the helvetic migration, but after the battle of Bibracte, all hopes that she and her people would ever reach their new home were torn to pieces.
Furthermore you can imagine: She probably had lost her husband on the battlefields of Bibracte and she had to face fact that she can be glad if their common newborn child would not be killed and she herself would be sold into roman slavery.
To sum it up: Her situation was desperate. In this situation "our" young gaulish woman despairs, can't accept her fate and turns to her goddess Epona... and accuses her for having forsaken her people. This is what the song expresses.
On a historical note: "Epona" was a gaulish goddess which was, among other things, in charge of taking care of horsemen and the cavallery. All over Gallia there were Epona temples where people traditionally offered up freshly cut roses or rose petals to their goddess."
