Land's End Chamber Music Society is a non-profit society in Calgary dedicated to the performance and advancement of leading edge modern music from some of the best living composers and performers in Canada. The Land's End Chamber Ensemble is a renowned performer of new music, in a classical tradition, and encourages the development of new artists in the genre through mentorship, composer competitions, commissioning of new works, and partnerships with other like-minded groups and artists. In 1997, a number of like-minded people founded the Land's End Chamber Ensemble and its governing body, the Land's End Chamber Music Society of Calgary. Their ambition was to fill a gap in the Calgary music scene -- the lack of contemporary chamber music. Land's End continues to present leading edge, very modern, music from some of the best living composers and artists in the country (and beyond). Land's End capitalizes on every opportunity to communicate with the audiences by means of concerts that are calculated to be attractive, and informative, to new and dedicated audience members alike. Striving for artistic merit congruent with the organization's mission includes:
• The promotion and development of emerging local and Canadian talents, in both performance and composition.
• An ensemble dedicated to the performance of post-Romantic works (ranging from Impressionist to contemporary pieces) of local, Canadian and international composers.
• Bridging a recognizable gap that has evolved between contemporary classical music and audiences.
Land's End fills these needs by contracting emerging musicians to work with the ensemble, by offering educational workshops and master classes, by implementing flexible concert programming philosophies that emphasize diversity, and by providing audiences with an atmosphere that is informative, social and relaxed.
