Mar 7, 2010, The Sandhill Cranes are still sitting on same 2 eggs since Jan 19, so I figure they must not be going to hatch. When will they stop sitting on egg.
Update:zJan 19, 2010 , We have a EGG, They are guarding it . The Cranes ,They still come by everyday.
The Moorhens disappeared slowly 13 to 1 , suspect gator.

They sat on the egg for 30 days then left it, They are back to mating on my porch again.
Expect a new baby sandcrane by Jan2009, SO stay tuned for pictures.
Nov 18, They are building nest again in same spot as Mar 2007,
Nov 12 update, They are back.
Ben started hanging around, they got worried he was taking over the pond. They have been back for about a week.
The dog monster to them is still here so I dont know if they will stay to nest or not.
It appears they are building one.
Oct 1 2008 , Romeo and Juliet are still
coming around, Ben and Betsy surprized me Tuesday with a visit.
July 112008, Romeo and Juliet They came this morning for breakfast.No signs of mating. They no longer sleep on nest at the pond. They eat spend the day grazing then fly off about 730pm. So I guess the water is to high on nest
due to summer rains.

About Me:
This all started 2006 with a injured Sandhill Crane with broken leg wandered to my porch. I fed her bread and she became Betsy. She brought her boyfriend Ben along one day. For months they came for morning bread. One morning 11 Cranes came by.
Then in March 2008, 2 of the Birds decided they liked our backyard pond and started making a nest. They claimed the territory and
chased off the the other birds. Betsy and Ben came back a few times but the other 2 continued to attack them.
In March they were mating on my porch, and by
April 5 they had a baby. we named the Romeo and Juliet and baby Marco.

The Sandhill cranes, laid 2 eggs a few days ago and they are taking turns nesting on it. so April 30, i hope for a colt to be born. Blackie the duck and her one baby still come everyday too to my porch.

The Sand Cranes have just gave up on 4th clutch. The storm last week washed out the eggs. after sitting on them for about 50 days. They started mating again and trying for another clutch. I hope it is not too late for them. They have had no luck since losing their colt in 2008 to a car accident.
