Main Street, Lake Wales, Florida

Lake Wales Main Street was formed in 1987 by local residents and businesses to revitalize the downtown district. It was patterned after the National Trust for Historic Preservation Main Street Program. Lake Wales was one of the State of Floridas first recognized Main Street programs.

The Main Street Four-Point Approach encourages economic development and historic preservation in ways that make sense in today's marketplace. The goal is to ensure community self-reliance, and the rebuilding of commercial districts based on their unique assets: historic architecture, a pedestrian-friendly environment, personal service, local ownership, and a sense of community. New jobs are created and new businesses flourish which brings investment to neighborhoods, and stimulates the local economy.
